The roots of the Sunday School movement emanate from 1905 with the formal inauguration, at the Maramon Convention. These were the organisations that were already functioning in many Mar Thoma parish's for the benefit of the young. The Sunday School was a natural progression in terms of an organisation that encouraged within the children in the church the essential need for spiritual growth. This is of course achieved only, with centring the entire organisation on the importance of the bible study.
St Peter’s Mar Thoma Church East London & UK operates the Sunday School under the outlined guidelines of the Mar Thoma Sunday School, Diocese of North America and Europe. We have adopted the stance of continuing in the work of the original mandate through the dedication of the voluntary teachers and assistants. The teachers and assistants provide:
The Sunday School meetings/sessions take place every Sunday after the service for children aged 5-12 between 5-6 pm. The children are lead in worship with songs both in English and Malayalam, and the teaching is in a way that represents Christ accurately. As the historical figure he is, and the manifestation of God Incarnate. This is opposed to the current and general world view a moralistic teacher who is communicated under the notion of story telling "Bible Stories".
